Fencing is one of the most accessible industries for start-up businesses and novice laborers to get into. For these people looking to make a few extra dollars installing fences, a shovel, a level, and a string line may be all they need.

As a result, there are many individuals or companies who show up in Ottawa and Gatineau, install residential fences for a short time, and then disappear. We see it all the time. Beware! You only want to work with a fully licensed and insured fencing contractor in Ottawa and Gatineau.

Here are some of the main pitfalls of working with non-professionals:

  1. The Residential Fence Warranty is Void
If the individual or company that installed your residential fence is no longer in business, the workmanship warranty on the fence and the gates is worthless. Additionally, some manufacturers won't warranty their fence material if it was improperly installed or damaged during installation. Both situations are common with non-professionals.

  2. The Fence Almost Certainly Won't Last As Long
As a professional fence company, our team of installers undergoes rigorous training and constant professional supervision. Our dedication to improving our skills, knowledge of the best fencing materials, and best fence installation techniques maximizes the strength and life of your fence. Companies that install fences as something they do "on the side" usually have no idea how much they don't know about residential fencing or what is best for you and your property.

  3. Your Property May be at Risk
Installing residential fences in the Ottawa and Gatineau area can be risky. Sudden, harsh weather during the fence installation can blow materials and damage your home. We've seen concrete splatter onto cars or drip down beautiful driveways or walkways as buckets of wet concrete are transported. Deep tire tracks sinking into your grass is another common issue. The secondary damage to homes and yards is common when untrained labor installs the fence.

Additionally, you are at risk if anyone gets hurt on your property while they are working. If you hire an unlicensed or uninsured contractor, you may be liable and your homeowner's insurance may deny payment!

At first glance, hiring a novice to install your fence may save you a few dollars, but in the long run, it is almost certainly a price you cannot afford to pay!

Aluminium Fence FAQs

Yes! We are a leading aluminium fencing contractor across the entire Ottawa and Gatineau area.

Our crews are specially trained in the latest aluminium fence installation techniques, ensuring that your fence will look great, function properly, and hold up to the harsh weather typical of Ottawa and Gatineau.

aluminium fencing is a popular option for homes and businesses in the Ottawa and Gatineau region. aluminium fences are strong yet lightweight; with their durable protective coating, aluminium fences easily stand up to the harsh weather conditions of Ottawa and Gatineau.

Other fence materials are less expensive initially, but aluminium fencing requires nearly zero maintenance. Over time, aluminium fencing is a less expensive fencing material, saving time and money when compared to many other alternatives because aluminium fences do not need to be painted or sealed.

If a maintenance-free elegant fence is what you want, look no further than aluminium fencing.

Our aluminium fences are powder-coated at the factory. A powder coating added to an aluminium fence prevents corrosion and makes regular maintenance a breeze by sealing the final color under a chemically bonded layer. It's accomplished by applying an electrostatically charged powder to the metal and baking it into a smooth coating.

If you are considering an aluminium fence for your Ottawa and Gatineau property, you definitely want to protect the beauty and durability of your fence with a powder coating. To minimize your stress, we ONLY sell and install powder-coated aluminium fences for residential and commercial applications.

Yes, they do!

Our aluminium fences have impressive warranties directly from the manufacturer. Depending on the specific brand and style of aluminium fence you choose, many of them come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty, ensuring that all aluminium fencing materials and powder-coated finishes will be free from manufacturing defects for the entire duration of the warranty period. Of course, we will guide you through these essential details to make sure you get the best warranty available.

We also offer our comprehensive workmanship warranty for every fence we install. We take pride in our work and our craftsmanship. We earn our outstanding reputation in Ottawa and Gatineau one happy customer at a time!

Whether you need a residential aluminium fence or a commercial-grade aluminium fence, it generally only takes a few days maximum for one of our fence experts to get to most areas of Ottawa and Gatineau, walk your property, and give you a detailed estimate of your aluminium fence project.

You can certainly call us to get even faster answers from our fence experts!

Once you approve the estimate, we can often install aluminium fences in most of Ottawa and Gatineau within 1 to 3 weeks, but please check with our office about your specific project. At times throughout the year, that timeframe may be less, or it may be longer.

Other things can delay the start of a fencing project. If you choose custom aluminium fence material, style, color, or add-ons that must be specially ordered, your fence installation will often be delayed. Like nearly every fencing contractor in the Ottawa and Gatineau, we do not stock a large amount of custom aluminium fencing options. These materials come from various manufacturers, and shipping and delivery times are beyond our control. We will help you identify, in advance, any of your choices that are likely to cause these additional delays, and we will offer alternatives whenever possible.

Fence placement is ultimately the responsibility of you, the customer. Moving a fence after installation can be costly, so getting a survey to be safe is never a bad idea. In many cases, the property lines are clear and well-marked and installing your fence can be done without an official survey. However, some municipalities do require it, so be sure to check!

Many small fence companies in Ottawa and Gatineau install aluminium fencing. Very few specifically train their teams on the best installation techniques and practices for aluminium fencing. Unfortunately, this means that your aluminium fence is probably not installed as securely as it could be, which ultimately can reduce the quality and lifespan of your aluminium fence.

Using inferior installation techniques and improper tools can also damage the aluminium fence during installation, which may have the unfortunate impact of voiding the manufacturer's warranty since you chose an unqualified contractor not approved by the manufacturer.

Here are some of the main pitfalls of working with non-professionals:

  1. The aluminium Fence Warranty is Void
If the individual or company that installed your aluminium fence is no longer in business, the workmanship warranty on the fence and the gates is worthless. Mixed Material Fence FAQs

Many homes and businesses in the Ottawa and Gatineau area have the mixed material system installed on their property. They're a popular choice among our customers because they are long-lasting, fully customizable, and need little upkeep while providing protection, privacy, and an aesthetically pleasing addition to any property.

The framework of the mixed material fence is made of powder-coated aluminum. The powder coating gives the aluminum its characteristic black color and ensures that the aluminum is water-proof and rust-resistant, making it great for the Ottawa or Gatineau area.

It sure will! The mixed material fence framework is rackable, meaning that it can be adjusted to accommodate sloped grades of land.

Mixed material fence rail systems are designed to be used with both wood and vinyl infill options so you can create the exact look you want.

Definitely! Our mixed material fence system is popular due to the privacy it provides in certain installations. Depending on the infill you choose, you can have full privacy, partial privacy, or an open concept. Consider your privacy requirements and choose the right infill material from the options available on the market.

The mixed material fence framework itself needs almost no upkeep. If having a low-maintenance fence is a priority, choose an infill material that also needs only minor maintenance, like vinyl. With the right choice of infill, your new fence just has to be washed occasionally to look great for many years to come.

Throughout history, you can still find ironwork that has stood for centuries, and it's no surprise why with the solid, durable metal it is crafted from. Ornamental iron fencing needs very little maintenance over its lifetime at your North Quebec property. Being proactive is the best way to make sure your fence will last without any issues. Keeping your ornamental iron free of dents will help prevent rust, so avoid using lawn trimmers too close to your fence or planting bushes too close to your fence, which can hide problems if they arise. Other than a rinse every now and then, your ornamental iron fence should need no cleaning or repairs, and you'll also receive a manufacturer's warranty that should cover major problems for your peace of mind.

The overall strength of ornamental iron fences in North Quebec varies based on the thickness of the fence posts and pickets as well as the post depth and fence height. DIY Fence Estimate

If you'd like to get a rough idea on your own about how much fencing you will need, follow these easy steps:

  • If you know the dimensions of the area you wish to enclose, add the length of each side together. Use a tape measure. Rough estimates are fine; there is no need to be too precise.
  • Be sure to subtract the length of any structures, like a house, a barn, or a shed, that will serve as part of the barrier. This will give you a rough estimate of how much fencing you need.
  • For even greater accuracy, subtract the length of any gates you will be using. Often, gates are priced much differently than fencing. For this reason, we recommend that property owners looking to develop their fence estimate list the gates separately. A standard walk gate is approximately 4 feet wide, and a standard single driveway gate is closer to 10 feet wide.

Caution!

Wood fencing is often priced and sold by SECTIONS, not by linear feet! Even when the linear footage is included specifically in price estimates, the total number of sections is a factor in this pricing. So, price per linear foot is only a rough estimate and rarely represents the actual cost of the finished fence!

If you would love to explore and explain this difference, you can speak with one of our fence experts. Be aware that price per linear foot is a ploy many unprofessional fence installers in the Ottawa and Gatineau area use!

Wood fencing is unique in its ability to be utilized for such a wide array of applications. Listed below are some of the most popular applications of wood fencing:

  • Decorative Wood Fencing
Many decorative styles of wood fencing are perfect for showcasing areas of a property or sectioning off a portion of your yard. Wood rail fences and wood picket fences are two of the most common decorative styles of wood fencing.
  • Wood Privacy Fencing
Wood fencing is an excellent option when you are looking for a privacy fence. Available in many styles, easily customizable, and able to be painted or stained in a variety of colors, it is a versatile, attractive option suitable for both residential and commercial properties.
  • Wood Perimeter Fencing
Wood fencing is the staple of privacy fences. Popular across Ottawa and Gatineau, a 6-foot dogear wood privacy fence is likely the single-most requested fence we install.

Deck FAQs

You will have to do regular maintenance on your deck, including staining and sealing with a quality deck stain, at least every 2 or 3 years. Without the regular application of stains, sealers, or paint, wood decking is susceptible to warping, splintering, cracking, and rotting.

That depends.

Decks that are built higher than 30 inches off the ground should have a railing. Otherwise, a railing is optional. However, there are other reasons you may want to include a railing in your build, such as:

Aesthetic reasons:

  • Adds another layer of dimension and style to your deck

Functional reasons:

  • Keeps people from stepping off the edge of your deck into landscaping.

Practical reasons:

  • Makes guests feel more comfortable when closer to the edge of the deck and prevents young children from falling off.

It is always best to simply call your town building code office. Local municipalities have different requirements for deck construction and building permits. Please reach out to our expert team, and we'll be happy to help you with the permitting process should you need one.

We have installed many residential decks across Ottawa and Gatineau so we are happy to answer your questions and can guide you through the process.

  • If the walking surface of the deck is 30-inches off the ground, your deck must be surrounded by guardrails which are a minimum of 36-inches in height. The steps for the deck must also have a handrail on one side if there are 4 or more individual risers (spaces between steps).

Stairs and Handrails:

  • Handrails need to be provided on at least one side of stairs with four or more risers. Handrails must be a minimum of 34" to 38" maximum above stairs. Handrails shall be continuous the full length of the stairs from a point directly above the lowest riser of the flight. Landings at the top and bottom of stairs need to be the same width as the stairs x 36" in the direction of travel.
